Modern, big displays
The display is one of the first things that users are noticing in mobile devices. When it comes to iPhone 11 Pro Max, there is a Super Retina XDR OLED capacitive touchscreen where you can find up to 16 million colors. The size of the screen is quite big – 6.5 inches or 102.9 square centimeters. You can find the same screen size and type of display in the iPhone XS Max. What’s different is that the screen-to-body ratio in the latter is higher (84.4% vs 83.7%).
iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone XS Max have the same resolution, impressive 1242 x 2688 pixels with a 19.5:9 ratio that provides around 458 pixels per inch. These phones have a scratch-resistant glass with oleophobic coating. You can expect Dolby Vision support, HDR10, true-tone feature, 120 HZ touch-sensing, and wide color gamut in the two models. That’s a little bit more compared to iPhone XS Max – 6.20 x 3.05 x 0.30 inches or 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7 millimeters. This is the reason why the latter weighs 7.34 oz (208 grams) compared to 7.97 oz (226 grams). This is probably a difference that you won’t notice in your pocket or purse.
You can expect Gorilla Glass at the front side and back side as well as a stainless steel frame in these two phones. They support a single SIM or Dial SIM and meet IP68 dust and water resistance standards. You can use Apple Pay on both devices.

iPhone 11 Pro Max has a main camera that comes with three modules – 12 MP wide module, 12 MP telephoto module, and 12 MP ultrawide module. What’s different in iPhone XS Max is that it has a main camera with two modules. Both of these modules are 12 MP modules – wide and telephoto. The good thing is that you will find HDR (for both panorama and regular photos) and quad-LED dual-tone flash in these two models. The options for taking videos are impressive and the same in both of them – 4K at 24, 30, and 60 frames per second as well as 1080p at 30, 60, 120, and 240 fps. Of course, there’s stereo sound and HDR support.
There is a significant difference in the selfie/front camera. Namely, iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 12 MP (wide) camera with SL 3D depth/biometrics sensor. iPhone XS Max comes equipped with a 7 MP (standard) camera with the same sensor. They both feature HDR. Both the capacity of batteries and charging times are important for those who are planning on buying new smartphones. It seems that Apple has done a great job with its latest iPhones. The older, iPhone XS Max, model is equipped with a non-removable Lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3174 mAh or 12.08 Wh. The newer model has a non-removable Lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3969 mAh or 15.04 Wh. As a result of that, the talk time (multimedia use included) with iPhone 11 Pro Max lasts up to 20 hours compared to XS Max’s 16 hours. Music play in both phones is impressive – up to 80 hours vs up to 65 hours.
It’s worth mentioning that both devices come with a fast-charging feature. It’s a 15-Watt charging that ensures that half of the battery is full in less than half an hour. In addition to Qi wireless charging, you should expect to charge with USB power delivery 2.0 in both cases.

So, you are wondering which one is better? We can freely say that iPhone 11 Pro Max is the winner, but we should also highlight the fact that these phones are not drastically different. The Pro Max model is an upgraded version of XS Max. There are no revolutionary changes in the newer model. Also, there are not many new features present in this phone.
The only thing that you should think about before making a decision, in this case, is the price of the device. In Australia, the price difference between these two models is significant. The iPhone 11 Pro Max is around 20 to 30% more expensive than iPhone XS Max. In our opinion, this makes iPhone XS Max a better option at least when it comes to value. However, if you want a new device that will keep its value for a longer time, then you should consider purchasing the iPhone 11 Pro. All in all, they are both great devices that should serve an average user without any problems for a long period.
