Apple company says the iPhone batteries have the 80% capacity to hold its charging upto 500 charging cycles. Means long for 20 to 24 months with the perfect charging. But after this period you may need to change its battery.
However the iPhone has parts restrictions for apple pairing. So you may have to lose data that says about battery health because of a replacement battery. But don’t worry your battery will work normally with your phone. So let’s start iPhone 15 Battery Replacement.
Gathering Required Tools for iPhone 15 Battery Replacement
Gathering essential tools before starting the replacement process is highly appreciated. It not just makes your repairing easier but it saves you time and hurdles. Like you don’t have to get tens between the replacement process because you couldn’t find a specific driver or tool. Anyways we have created a list of those essential tools so just it out.
*iPhone 15 replacement battery
*P2 Pentalobe Screwdriver
*Heat gun or hair dryer
*Opening Picks
*Suction Handle
*Tri-point Y000 screwdriver
*Tweezer
*Spudger
*ESD save blunt nose tweezer
*Isopropyl alcohol
*Lint free or microfiber cloth piece
*Plastic card
*iPhone 15 stretch adjective strip
*iPhone rear glass adhesive
These tools are enough for the iPhone 15 Battery Replacement. However you also have to choose a suitable area that should be calm, have an electric socket nearby, well enough lighting and no suffocation. Right area selection will also make your work easier.
Step #1. Preparing iPhone 15 for Disassembling
*Firstly please check if any cable or wire is connected with any port of the phone
*Also switch off the iPhone 15. (Hold the power button and the volume button at the same time. After a few seconds the power off slide will appear. Swipe right to turn off your phone.)
Remember
*When you are disassembling your iPhone please check the battery status of your phone. If it shows more than 25% then please wait until it goes less than 25%. A charge battery is more susceptible to catching fire if accidentally gets damaged.
Step #2. Separating the Rear Glass of iPhone 15
*The step for disassembling your phone is to separate the rear glass.
*To do this you need to cut the adhesive between the rear glass and the frame.
*Heat application can make this adhesive cutting process much easier.
*So firstly we will apply heat on the bottom of the iPhone 15’s rear glass.
*For heating you can use a hair dryer or a heat gun. But apply heat carefully. Because excessive heat can damage the battery and screen may also get affected by the heat.
*During heat you can check the rear glass by touching with your hands. Feel the warmth. And apply heat until it gets too hot to touch.
Step #3. Apply Suction Handle
*After heating we will apply the suction handle at the bottom of the iPhone 15 rear glass.
*Try to place the handle in the center of the bottom side.
*The Suction Handle will help you create a gap for opening pick insertion.
*Apply steady force and pull the suction handle until you see a line gap gap between the frame and the rear glass.
Remember
*When applying a Suction Handle be careful if the screen or the back glass is cracked. Pulling can further break the glass or even shattered screen or back cover can damage your face and eyes.
*Only you need to apply a clear pack tape all over the screen or the back glass.
Step #4. Insert First Opening Pick
*Insert an opening pick into the gap.
*When the pick goes in you can remove the Suction Handle from the bottom.
*Slide the pick back and forth to cut the adhesive from the bottom edge of the iPhone 15.
*Only 5 mm deep insertion of the pick is allowed in this bottom edge of the iPhone 15.
*Leave the opening pick inserted at the bottom edge.
Important Information About The Rear Glass
*The rear glass has a very delicate cable inside it near volume buttons. These cables connect the charging coil and NFC antenna to the logic board.
*So here we can never insert the opening pick.
*Also around the other edges of the phone there is spring contact. So we need to avoid deep insertion of the pick to protect those spring contacts.
*However in this guide we will guide you about the opening pick insertion depth for every edge of the iPhone 15.
Step #5. Apply Heat On All Edges of the iPhone 15
*Use the same heating equipment that you have already picked. Apply heat on all sides of the iPhone.
*Keep checking the rear glass until it gets too hot.
Step #6. Slide the Pick along All Edges to Separate the Back Glass
*Now move that first opening pick from the bottom edge to the right corner and then right edge.
*Keep separating the rear glass from the frame until you feel the force. This is the clip in the middle of the right edges.
*Rotate the pick so that the flat tip of the phone goes in. Now twisting and turning will increase the gap between the glass and frame and help to release the clip from the frame.
*Release the clip and move on.
*You have to stop cutting the adhesive when you reach the volume down button. As we know that pick insertion is not allowed crossing these buttons.
Step #7. Insert Second Opening Pick
*Now insert the second opening pick just from the 1st opening pick.
*Move the pick toward the bottom right edges and cross the right side and right bottom corner, bottom edge and bottom left corner.
*Now your opening pick is on the left edges of the iPhone 15.
*Keep sliding the pick cutting through the Adhesive.
*Release the clips by twisting and turning pick and move ahead to the top left corner.
*When you reach the top corner you can apply more heat. Otherwise go ahead with flow.
*Side the pick from the left corner and on the top you will get two clips. Release them and cross the top right corner.
*You have to stop cutting the adhesive near the power button.
*Now twist the pick, apply steady force to increase the gap holding the pick near the power button. And not much time but the entire rear glass will be separated from the frame.
Step #8. Open the Rear Glass
*Now we have separated the entire adhesive between the rear glass and frame. We can open the rear glass.
*Keep the rear glass swing on the right side.
*Before opening you should place a box or a stack of books. Rest the back glass with the box/books.
*The back cover is still attached with the cables.
*Anyways while opening if you feel it is still stuck leave it and go back to check the adhesive or clip that may have left from releasing.
Step #9. Remove the Lower Connector Cover and Disconnect the Battery
*The cables are under the cover. So we have to open the screws of the lower Connector Cover
*Use a tri-point Y000 driver to unfasten the two 1.3 mm long screws.
*Please carefully place the screws as you have to fasten them back in their correct hole.
*After removing the screws you will need a tweezer to slide the cover for unlatching its hook locking with the logic board.
*Remove the cover.
*Hold the back cover upright and rotate it to reveal the battery press connector.
*The press connector has the plus and minus sign.
*Use an opening pick to pry up the press connector and Disconnect the battery from the logic board.
Step #10. Remove the Middle Connector Cover and Disconnect The Charging Coil and NFC
*The other connections with glass are also hidden under the middle cover
*The cover is secured with a screw.
*To open that screw you will need a tri-point Y000 driver. The screw is 0.9 mm long.
*Pick a flat end spudger or your finger to push the cover toward the bottom side.
*Unclip the cover from the top edge
*Now remove it and Disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector and NfC antenna.
*With this discussion the rear glass will get fully free.
*Remove the rear cover and keep it protected from breaking, cracking and other damages.
Step #11. Separate the Battery Cable
*The battery cable of the iPhone 15 is slightly stuck with the adhesive.
*We have to cut that adhesive and seperate the battery cable.
*You can use an opening pick to slide it under the cable.
*Carefully Separate it from the logic board.
*Be cautious! Don’t crease the battery cable and don’t dent and band the battery with your tool.
Step #12. Peel up the Pull Tabs of the Battery
*The iPhone 15’s battery is secured with the two pull tabs.
*Use a flat tip spudger to scrape up the pull taps’ corners.
*Try to release those two taps until you can grip them with the blunt nose tweezers.
*You have to be extra cautious while working with the battery. Don’t dent or puncture the battery with your tools.
*Peel both the pull tabs. Actually the stretch release tape are wrap around the top edge of the battery. Separate it before you remove the strips
*Hold one of the pull tabs away from the battery with tweezers.
*Use an opening pick to slice the adhesive securing the strip to the top edge of the battery.
*Repeat this for the other pull tab.
*Grab the adhesive strip’s pull tab and slowly pull it out from under the battery at a low angle.
*Let the strip stretch as you pull, and re-grip it if needed.
*Be careful not to drag the strip over any parts or cables above the battery.
*For better control, you can wrap the strip around a tool to help with pulling.
*Repeat the same process for the other adhesive strip.
*If the strip breaks, try to pull it out from under the battery.
Alternative Method for Removing the Battery
*Well if you have removed both the stretch release adhesive then you must have successfully removed the battery.
*But if something went wrong, don’t worry this alternative method will succeed you.
*So you need to apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol. Prop up the phone so that the liquid goes in.
*Wait for a while. And then insert the plastic card from the side you apply the isopropyl alcohol.
*Pry up the battery with a card. Once the card starts to slide in it will cut the adhesive under the battery and release it from the frame.
*Lift the battery until you can grip it with your hand
*Then remove the battery.
And with this step the disassembling process has come to its end. Now we will replace the iPhone 15 Battery and then reassemble the entire phone.
Step #13. iPhone 15 Battery Replacement (Installing New Battery)
*Unwrapped the genuine iPhone 15 battery replacement.
*Check it temporarily, placing it in its slot.
*But you have to clean the frame from the battery slot.
*Place the battery and check its cable is reaching the logic board battery connection socket.
*The new battery replacement usually comes with pre-installed Stretch release adhesive. If in your case the battery doesn’t have pre installed Stretch release adhesive we can guide how you can apply it. See for next step.
How to Apply Stretch release Adhesive Strip
*If you are applying new Stretch release adhesive to the battery to have to clean the battery surface before installing new adhesive.
*Peel the residuals or apply isopropyl alcohol if needed. Then clean with the lint free fiber.
*Next step is application of stretch release adhesive. It will be applied on the back side of the battery that is set down in the phone’s frame.
*Apply the adhesive strip on your new iPhone 15 battery replacement. Keep the pull tabs above the top edge of the battery. Check the adhesive strip is slightly larger than the battery. So please line up the strip on the battery and then mark it’s right length that you need for your battery.
*Cut the adhesive and remove the access part of the adhesive.
*When you are satisfied with the adhesive length remove the small pieces of blue film covering the flat ends of the adhesive strips.
*Be careful you need to only remove the parts over the pull tabs, not the whole blue liner.
*Line up the sticky part of the adhesive strips along the front edge of the battery and press them down gently.
*Place the battery face down on a flat surface.
*Starting from the cut end of the strips, peel off the large blue film.
*If you find it hard to peel off, use tweezers to lift the blue layer near the cut part.
*Use your finger to press the adhesive onto the battery, then smooth the strip down flat on the back of the battery.
*Finally peel off the rest of the plastic to fully expose the adhesive strips. Now the adhesive is properly applied.
If you don’t have these adhesive strips you can use thin double-sided tape to secure the battery instead.
Step # 14. Reassembling Rear Glass
*Before sealing the back cover you can check your replacement and how it is working.
*To do this you can connect the cables such as display connector, charging Coil connector and the battery.
*Then switch on your phone and see if it is working normally.
